The Golden Age of Antiheroes: The Legacy of The Sopranos

Abstract

The Sopranos is regarded as one of the greatest television shows of all time. Starting in 1999 and ending in 2007, The Sopranos also has one of the biggest legacies of any tv series ever. It influenced every drama series that came after it, and it even influenced shows that were not dramas. Much like Twin Peaks, The Sopranos was innovative and pushed the boundaries of what was possible for the medium of television. The bold vision of the show ushered in a new Golden Age for the medium, and throughout the 2000s, there were an abundance of antihero-centric shows, like The Wire and Breaking Bad.
